Our Listing Conditions Are Here to Protect Everyone

SafewayPets wants to provide a trustworthy place for responsible people to advertise pets and for prospective owners to find their next companion.

Clear and accurate information helps everyone make better decisions and, most importantly, helps protect the welfare of the animals involved.

Anyone placing a listing on SafewayPets is expected to act honestly, responsibly and in accordance with our Terms and Conditions.

Our listing conditions encourage accurate information, responsible advertising, clear communication and putting animal welfare first.

Provide Accurate Information

Information included in a listing must be accurate to the best of the advertiser’s knowledge.

Important details about the animal should not be deliberately omitted, exaggerated or presented in a way that could mislead a prospective owner.

This includes information about the animal’s age, breed or type, sex, location, health, temperament and background where relevant.

If important information changes while a listing is active, the listing should be updated.

Use Genuine Photographs

Photographs should genuinely represent the animal being advertised unless it is made completely clear why another image is being shown.

Images should not be used in a way that could cause somebody to believe they are viewing a particular animal when they are not.

Clear, recent photographs can help prospective owners understand more about the animal before making contact.

Registration and Pedigree Claims

If an advertiser states that an animal is registered with a breed or governing organisation, that information must be accurate.

The same applies to claims about pedigree, parentage, awards, breeder status or membership of an organisation.

Prospective owners should be given a reasonable opportunity to check relevant documentation where appropriate.

SafewayPets encourages prospective owners to independently verify important claims before making a commitment.

Health Information

Advertisers should provide honest information about known health matters that could reasonably affect somebody’s decision to offer the animal a home.

Claims concerning vaccinations, veterinary examinations, health testing, microchipping or other healthcare should be accurate and supported by appropriate documentation where applicable.

No animal should be deliberately presented as having received healthcare or testing that has not taken place.

Describe the Animal Honestly

Temperament and behaviour can be particularly important when deciding whether an animal is suitable for a particular home.

Advertisers should not knowingly conceal significant behavioural or welfare issues.

Where an animal has particular needs, these should be explained as clearly as reasonably possible so that prospective owners can decide whether they can provide an appropriate home.

Be Clear About Payments

Any price, deposit or other payment connected with a listing should be clearly explained.

Before accepting money, advertisers should make reasonable efforts to ensure that the prospective owner understands what the payment is for and any relevant conditions that apply.

Advertisers must not deliberately provide false or misleading payment information.

Communicate Responsibly

Prospective owners are likely to have questions, and responsible advertisers should expect them.

Answer reasonable questions honestly and avoid putting unnecessary pressure on somebody to make an immediate decision or payment.

Advertisers may also ask reasonable questions about prospective owners and the home they can provide.

Finding an appropriate home for an animal should matter to both parties.

Put Animal Welfare First

SafewayPets expects the welfare of the animal to take priority over simply completing a transaction.

An advertiser should consider whether the prospective home appears suitable for the particular animal and should not knowingly place an animal in circumstances where its welfare is likely to be compromised.

Sometimes the responsible decision is not to proceed.

One Animal, One Honest Story

The photographs, description, conversations and documentation associated with a listing should tell a consistent and truthful story about the animal being offered.

If circumstances change, say so.

If a mistake is discovered, correct it.

Transparency builds trust.

Misleading or Inappropriate Listings

SafewayPets may review listings or accounts brought to our attention where there are concerns about accuracy, safety, animal welfare or compliance with our rules.

Where appropriate and permitted under our Terms and Conditions, action may include requesting further information, requiring changes to a listing, restricting an account or removing content.

Publication of a listing by SafewayPets should not be interpreted as a guarantee or endorsement of the advertiser, animal or information provided.

Reports and Concerns

If a prospective owner believes important information in a listing may be inaccurate or misleading, they can contact SafewayPets.

Where possible, provide the listing number together with an explanation of the concern and any relevant information.

We will consider information provided to us in accordance with our policies and Terms and Conditions.

Advertiser Responsibility

The person placing a listing remains responsible for the accuracy of the information they provide and for complying with applicable laws and SafewayPets’ Terms and Conditions.

SafewayPets provides the platform through which advertisers and prospective owners can find and communicate with each other, but users must still carry out their own reasonable checks before proceeding.

Rules alone cannot create a responsible pet community.

Trust develops when people provide accurate information, ask sensible questions, communicate openly and put animal welfare first.
